Canterbury Dual Motor Electric Leather Riser Recliner Chair Review

canterbury dual motor leather electric riser recliner chair
4.1/5

The Canterbury is a dual motor riser recliner chair that is both stylish and elegant, and a great mobility aid to prevent falls, particularly in the elderly.

So, let’s take a closer look at the Canterbury Dual Motor Electric Leather Riser Recliner Chair to see exactly how well it performs for the price.

Main Features

  • Foot rest and backrest move independently
  • Rise or recline at the touch of a button
  • Stylish design to add to any decor
  • Craftsman Upholstered
  • Luxurious heat and 8 point vibration massage function
  • Handy storage pocket on side of chair for the handset, phone or books
  • Upholstered in nut brown, black or cream bonded leather
  • High quality dual Okin motors with L&P mechanism
  • Supports maximum user weight of 21 stones
  • Separate handsets for movements / heat and massage.

Pros ( What I liked about it )

  • The dual motor is a great feature because it means you can independently either lift up the foot rest or recline the chair back, as you don’t often want to move them both at the same time.

  • The foot rest rises to an almost vertical position which when incorporated with the recline function, puts you in a perfect comfortable snooze position to relax.
  • The chair is really comfortable particularly the back support which moulds around your neck and shoulders.
  • Side pocket is handy for storage – it’s a good height when you reach down to the side of the chair to put handset in. Without the pocket it tends to get in the way on the chair you’re sitting on, or falls on the floor, which can be difficult to pick up for some people.
  • A separate handset controls the 8 point vibration massager (2 on the upper back / shoulders, 2 on the lumbar, 2 on the seat, and 2 on the leg).

  • The heated massage function I found quite relaxing although I am not sure what therapeutic value you will get from it.
  • Smooth and quiet operation with a distinct lift, rest and recline action.

  • Simple to operate handset with 4 button controls.

  • The chair is really easy to assemble and takes about 15 minutes to set up and start working. The back piece is separate to the main body of the chair.

Cons ( What I didn't like about it )

  • When fully reclined the chair is 67″ long, so you will need a fair amount of space, and position it away from the wall to avoid accidentally hitting the wall when reclining. However, this applies to a lot of riser recliner chairs.
  • Although the bonded leather of the chair is durable if handled well, it is best off positioned away from direct sunlight from windows or skylights, as the leather is vulnerable to fading.

  • I’m not sure it is a negative, because the chair performs really well but it is quite expensive and depending on your budget you may find it’s out of your price range.

  • If you don’t really need the heat and massage extras, then you could find a cheaper version  chair.

Lovely looking chair and very comfortable for 90 year old mother-in-law. She loves it! Simple to assemble although not for a frail old lady. Instructions rather brief, but not too much to go wrong.

Good quality chair, excellent value and easy to fit together. Thinking about getting one for my husband as well.

Verdict

This is a beautifully designed electric recliner chair that features easy to use controls, and is available in brown, black, or cream bonded leather, although I preferred the brown.

It is both stylist, elegant and really comfortable to sit in offering a host of additional features such as the heat and massage function which is quite relaxing.

For me, putting the cost aside it definitely made it into my Best Riser Recliner Chairs 2022 and is worth taking a closer look at.

  1. I’ve been thinking about getting a riser recliner chair so your review for me is timely.

First, I like that you provided me with testimonials from people who look a similar age. Your Cons: check list made me think about the spaced I’d need to put a recliner in and if sunlight could harm it – I found this very helpful it mad me measure and think.

Your Pros: you let me know that it was simple to operate, but as a single retired woman I’m wondering if I could assemble the recliner on my own, or would I need to employ a home handyman?

You also provided a cheaper option at the end
    Thank you for this information

    • Honor,
Thanks for your lovely feedback. The riser recliner chair is simple to assemble with it having to maon pieces to it. The base of the chair and the separate back support fix together and then sorting out the remote control handsets and plugging in to an electrical socket. The two main pieces of the chair are quite heavy to assemble on your own, and it would be wise to have someone available to help you. Hope this helps, but please don’t hesitate to contact me should you need any further information.

  2. Informative review about this Canterbury riser recliner.
I can image how therapeutic a recliner that comes with heat and a massager. You are right about a cheaper version if you don’t want those features.
I can see myself needing one of these soon.

    • Hi Virgie
Thanks for your feedback. The Canterbury Dual Motor Electric Riser Recliner has the 8 point vibration massager (2 on the upper back / shoulders, 2 on the lumbar, 2 on the seat, and 2 on the leg) which not all riser recliner chairs have. It is definitely a useful addition to have depending on your budget.

  3. I have been looking round for a dual motor leather riser recliner chair recently for my grandma and really like the look of the Canterbury chair.
I like the fact that the foot rest rises to an almost vertical position which when incorporated with the recline function, gets you into a really comfortable position.
The heat and massage function is a handy addition which you don’t find with other riser recliner chairs. I have bookmarked for future.
    Thanks for sharing.
